Hymgard is a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting of Nordic lore and advanced technology. A world of magic and science, shining cities ruled by Gods and untamed wastelands of monsters and marauders.
The inspiration for this world presented itself when a life long passion collided with a new obsession. For as long as I can remember, I have loved Norse Mythology. Having devoured and memorized the Eddas from a very young age, it was no surprise that, moving to TTRPG’s, I focused on Norse Mythology as the basis for my setting. But it never felt right as a historical or Medieval setting.
ENTER TITANSGRAVE! The Dystopian fantasty setting of Titansgrave inspired me to uproot my worlds stories, transferring the old Norse sagas to a new and exciting world, and thus, Hymgard was born.
I have been working on this setting for a while and I am so excited to start sharing it with the world!
Born from the ashes of a world cremated in the fires of war, Hymgard has seen its share of calamities. After the fall of the old world in the end-war, the Humans of Midgard rebuilt their cities under the vision of the Norse gods, unaware they would soon find themselves sharing their brave new world. New races, displaced denizens of the other nine realms, emerged to take residence in this world. Some became uncertain allies, others fast enemies, and it was not long until Hymgard was plunged into war once more.
Angrbhoda, the bringer of sorrow, along with her three monstrous children, set upon Hymgard with an army of Jotun, undead and terrible monsters. Their hordes met the combined force of the Aesir, Vanir and the peoples of Hymgard, and Ragnarok began. Though Angrbhoda and her children were defeated, Hymgard still bears the scars, and remnants, of that great battle.
I do worldbuilding streams on twitch, doing art and writing for the world of Hymgard as I build it into a full setting book. You can check out my streams or help support my endeavours by donating or subscribing to my Ko-fi page.

During the battle of Ragnarok, many of the Aesir and Vanir were lost, but those that remained took up residence on the mortal plane, becoming rulers of their own kingdoms within Hymgard.
Among the immortal lords, to name a few, Baldur rules over Midgard, Bragi rules Vatengata and the children of Thor, Modi, Magni and Thruthr, rule Torinborg in Svartalfheim.

Following Ragnarok, Hymgard became home to a number of races, all torn from their homes in the realms of Yggdrasil.
Prominently among them, there are the Dwarves and Dark Elves of Svartalheim, the Light Elves of Alfheim, the Ogni and Jotun of Niflheim and, of course, the humans of Midgard.

At PAXAUS 2022, I had the honour of working with PAXAUS at the Table as part of the Australian Roleplay community. I ran a game based in Hymgard, using the AGE system, and it was received with excitement by all players.
But seeing some of the other games on display, other systems that were being cooked up, it inspired me to build my own.HOWEVER, following this up, I did some research and quickly came to the conclusion that the TTRPG market is very saturated with systems. Discussing this with a friend of mine, I came to the conclusion that the world of Hymgard doesn’t necessarily need to have a system attached to it.
And so, we are moving ahead with Hymgard as a system agnostic setting book.
